The latest flasgship from LG – G5

A warm welcome to my blog. Hope you are doing great.

Myself, a computer science engineer by education, a tech geek by passion and a content management professional. The advancements in the field of mobile communication & devices is booming right now. Everyday someone is coming up with a new technology which at-least helps a particular target segment. I believe in a few days everything will be mobile. Computers and Laptops may have a downfall asap.

For the first time from LG, a different look and feel has been boasted to their flagship.

Physical overview:

The device comes with a 5.3 inches IPS LCD “alway on display” with Gorilla glass 4 protection, 1440 x 2560 resolution and a pixel dentsity of ~550ppi. Physical dimensions of the device are 149.4 x 73.9 x 7.7mm and the device weighs ~160gms.

Software:

G5 runs on Android 6.0.1 with LG Optimus UX 5.0 on top.

Processor:

The heart of this smartphone is powered by the latest powerful Qualcomm Snapdagon 820 – dual core 2.15Ghz Kryo & dual core 1.6Ghz Kryo  CPUs coupled with Adreno 530 GPU.

Storage:

LG G5 has 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory and can be further expanded upto 200GB via dedicated memory card slot .

Camera:

In the camera department this smartphone comes with 16MP (f/1.8) + 8MP(f/2.4) dual primary camers with OIS, laser auto-focus, led flash, and a 8MP (f/2.0)front camera.

Sensors:

The phone supports fingerprint, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, color spectrum sensors, bluetooth 4.2, NFC, infrared, fm radio, USB-OTG.

Battery:

The removable battery compartment has 2800mah Li-Ion battery with Quick Charge 3.0 via USB 3.0 Type C reversible connector. The way of removng battery is different from what we have been doing so far. You must remove it by pressing and dragging the LG logo at the bottom. Different color panels can be used only for bottom layer that is removable.

Variants:

The phone will be available in 2 variants – single & dual nano-sim with 4G LTE connectivity and 4 colors – silver, titan, gold and pink.

Awards:

FYI, LG G5 has been awarded the best upcoming smartphone 2016 by GSMA

Verdict:

G5 seems to have all the features required for a phone to be called a ‘flagship’. Removable 2800mah battery may not be enough for a powerful smartphone like this as many other devices like Asus zenfone, Xiaomi Mi have increased their battery capacity to 3000mah or more. But G5 stands out from other smartphones in its look and feel for sure. Camera department is another booster for this device. Considering all these specs, this phone may have to be priced higher but not as much as the latest 6s or 6s+.
